There is an Online Convenience Fee applied to all online renewals, to offset the costs of maintaining and providing the online service.
Why do I pay service fees?
Registries are private businesses in Alberta, and share with the Provincial Government the work of providing registry services. Therefore, every vehicle renewal fee in Alberta consists of a government portion and a registry portion. The service fees you pay for your renewal make up the registry agent portion.
This system is different from every other province and territory in Canada, where 100% of registry fees are paid to the Provincial or Territorial Government.
